Speech from the United Nations Secretary-General on the World Food Crisis

Secretary-General of the United Nations, Ban Ki-moon visited Saint Louis University last month to discuss global food security. While here he addressed the world food crisis and the plight of those he calls the “bottom billion”

“Some 1 billion of the world’s people — I call them the ‘bottom billion’ — live on less than $1 a day,” he said. “Two billion live on less than $2 a day. That means that one third of world?s people live on less than $2 a day. Many, if not most of them, are children. Hunger and under-nutrition are their overwhelming daily reality.”

Recycling @ SLU to get Easier

Starting this month recycling on campus will be simpler. From Newslink:

“The large recycling containers in public spaces, including Busch Student Center, also now will serve as collection points for all recyclables, except for glass, which is currently accepted only in the Village and Grand Forest apartments.

“It’s our hope that making recycling even simpler at SLU will encourage more people to take advantage of the program,” said Jeff Macko, manager of grounds and custodial services. “This enhancement is just another way we can create a more sustainable campus.”

Promising progress toward a greener campus!
