Hanson and Toms Shoes Come to Campus to Meet Challenges Facing Africa

Hanson, along with Toms Shoes, is visiting campus to participate in a charitable walk across campus tomorrow, October 1.

Toms Shoes is a company founded on the idea that for every pair of shoes they sell, they will give a pair to someone who needs them. Toms plans to give over 300,000 pairs in 2009.

The “Take a Walk” event is a one mile walk across campus in which students are invited to walk in solidarity with the 40% of the world without shoes. The members of Hanson will participate in the event, and will invite others to do the mile barefoot. Then they’ll perform three songs at the bookstore and sign their book, Take the Walk.

For every mile walked, Hanson will donate $1 to one of five challenges facing Africa. Registration for the walk begins at 12 pm in the bookstore. The walk begins at 1 pm with the event concluding around 2:30.

The event is sponsored by Students United for Africa. For more information, visit www.takethewalk.net.
