Get Involved Internationally

It’s a small world and getting smaller; get involved with international students on campus!

You can help students practice their English and make some friends while you’re at it at the CSF Talk Tuesday in Ritter Hall 119 from 6 pm to 8 pm. Everyone is encouraged to come out.

Or, if you’re an international student and need help writing or practicing the language, come out to the Writing Center on the third floor of the library on Monday or Wednesday night from 6 pm-8 pm for help with the written word.

Finally, if you have a general interest in getting involved with the International Student Federation, come out to Pius Library on Thrusday, October 1 for the general interest meeting. Bring your questions and concerns and get some snacks and drinks.

School of the Americas Vigil and Protest

251-SOA_Connectionpic

This fall marks the 20th anniversary of the martyrdom of six Jesuits and their coworkers in El Salvador at the hands of School of the Americas graduates. In honor of the anniversary, the Department of Campus Ministry is sponsoring a trip to the School of the Americas Vigil and Ignatian Family Teach-In.

The School of the Americas (SOA) is a military training program for soldiers from Latin America and the Caribbean located on the grounds of the United States Army base at Fort Benning, Georgia.  Saint Louis University has been sending a group to this annual, non-violent vigil at the gates of Fort Benning since 1996 to raise awareness of the policies and programs that are responsible for the deaths of the Jesuits in El Salvador and thousands of others throughout the Americas.

The Department of Campus Ministry would like to invite all students to join the SLU delegation to the vigil and teach-in. The buses will depart from SLU late in the evening of November 19 and will return in the predawn hours on November 23. Join other students, staff, and faculty members this Thursday, October 1st, at 8:30pm in Carlo Auditorium (Tegeler Hall) for a chance to learn more about the SOA and to hear personal testimonies of those who have attended the vigil and protest.

Registration forms are available in Campus Ministry and online at http://www.slu.edu/x25957.xml. The deadline to register is October 16. For more information on cost and logistics, please contact Ben Smyth in Campus Ministry at 977-1532 or smythbk@slu.edu.
