Service Leadership Toy Drive a Success

Megan Mitchell

The Service Leadership Toy Drive was a huge success, collecting over $1,500 dollars in cash donations with which they were able to purchase approximately 150 toys on top of the 88 already donated. In addition to these toys, Bobby Wassel of the Center for Service and Community Engagement collected over 200 toys as well, employing his blue Santas.

Children from Hodgen, Herzog, Clay, Sherman, Cote Brilliant and Hamilton Elementary Schools as well as children from the Third Baptist Church were in attendance at the celebration in the BSC Ballrooms Thursday, December 3. Each child received a toy from Santa with their meal and were able to participate in games and activities at the event.

Take a Break and Ease Your Pre-Finals Jitters

Several scientific studies have shown that final exams are hard. Take a break from the stress of a a looming week of studying with some events happening all over campus:

Reinert Hall will be hosting a very special presentation of “Elf” in its banquet rooms on Saturday, December 5 at 9 pm.  The four main food groups will be provided: candy, candy canes, candy corns, and syrup. Sponsored by Reinert and Billikens After Dark.

On Monday, December 7, SHAPE and Active Minds will set up a “Stress Free Zone” in the Knights Room in Pius Library. From 7-9 pm there will be food games, massages for a dollar a minute, and stress kits to take care of the stresses of the week.

Finally, Chartwells and the Residence Hall Association will be hosting their annual Midnight Breakfast on Monday, December 7, from 10 pm-12 am (the term “Midnight Breakfast” is used loosely) . Recycle You Old Cell Phones and Help Soldiers Overseas With Campus Ministry

Campus Ministry is holding a drive to help keep cell phones out of landfills and help soldiers stationed overseas to call home.

The phones are then sold to pay for calling cards for our soldiers stationed overseas. The drive starts Thursday, December 3rd and will continue through January. So if you have any used cell phones laying around your house you can bring them back with you next semester.

This drive will keep old cell phones out of landfills and allow soldiers to stay in touch with their loved ones. There are drop off boxes in the BSC, Dubourg Hall, and Campus Ministry.

Be sure to bring back any old phones you have at home over break and help soldiers and the environment.

Bear Ceuse and Flaming Death Trap to Perform at the Billiken Club

l_2783ff36e085483ba2e960d00e08db6d

One of Saint Louis University’s own will be taking the stage at the Billiken Club on Friday, December 5.

Cameron Matthews, SLU grad, will be performing with his band Bear Ceuse. You can check out their MySpace page here. They will be joined by Flaming Death Trap, whose name I can only assume is some kind of reference to the elevators in Gries. They’re also on an antiquated social media site.

As always, Billiken Club shows are free, all ages, and open to the public. Doors open at 8, show starts at 9. For more information on this and upcoming events, check out the Billiken Club’s website at thebilikenclub.wordpress.com. See you there!
