Cody Ellis Wants You to Come Out to the Chaifetz for the CBI Championship Tonight at 7


Tonight in the Chaifetz Arena, the Billikens will take on VCU in the championship series of the College Basketball Invitational.

If the Bills win this game, the deciding match up will be held Friday in Chaifetz. The game starts at 7, but the first 500 students to present a valid SLU ID at the Billiken Ticket Office will receive free tickets to both home games of the championship series.

Campus Recreation Presents “Good Eats, Good Health” in the Ballrooms on Wednesday

The Department of Campus Recreation’s Wellness Programs is presenting a guide to healthy businesses and food alternatives in and around SLU this Wednesday, March 31 from 11:30 AM to 1:00 PM in the Wool Ballrooms.

Participating businesses and groups include Crazy Bowls and Wraps, Crave, St. Louis Bread Co., Vito’s, Little Saigon Café, 6 North Coffee Company, Fresh Gatherings, Simon Rec Center Juice Bar, Costco, Juice Plus, Comfort Shoe Specialist, Overeaters Anonymous, St. Louis Community Credit Union, SLU Cancer Center, American Diabetes Association, St. Louis County Department of Health, Solae LLC, Sleet Feet Sports, Upper Limits Climbing Gym, and SLU Rowing, Fencing, Krav Maga, and Karate Sports Clubs.

The event will also feature raffle prixes from Fleet Feet, Newstead Tower Public House, Five Bistro, Trader Joe’s, and Fitz’s. As always, there will be free food samples available.

Homeless Awareness Week (April 6-10) Seeks to Educate on the Issue of Homelessness

Next week on campus, several departments and organizations will present Homeless Awareness Week, a week of events designed to raise awareness of homelessness locally, nationally, and internationally. Bobby Wassel, with the Center for Service and Community Engagement, explains:

Tuesday, April 6: Movie Night and Discussion, 8 pm in the Gries Lobby. Come out and watch The Soloist starring Jamie Foxx, enjoy some snacks and engage in a dialogue around homelessness.

Wednesday, April 7: Open Door Homeless Outreach, 11 am-1:30 pm in Simon Recreation Center. Over 400 people experiencing homelessness will be on campus to receive a meal, clothing, and access to various social services.

Thursday, April 8: Speaker Night – The Tucker Tunnel, 7 pm in the College Church Ballroom. Diane Starr, matriarch of the people living in community in the Tucker Tunnel downtown that is the in the process of being closed by the City, will share her experience of being homeless in St. Louis.

Friday, April 9: Brown Bag Spring BreakOut Trip Presentations – 12:15 pm, Campus Ministry. Students will be presenting on their experience of housing issues in New Orleans and Belize. Bring your lunch, but snacks provided!

Saturday, April 10: Alpha Phi Omega Showers of Service – 8:30 am-2:00 pm, West Pine Gym. Join the SLU community for this annual day of service. Sign up at http://apo.slu.edu/sos.

“SLU Night at the Ballpark” Offers Cards Tickets for $12

Baseball season is upon us, and Student Development wants to get you out to Busch Stadium as fast as possible.

The always debonair David Young just told us about “SLU Night at the Ballpark” at the Cardinals-Astros game on April 14. Head up to the Student Involvement Center on the third floor of the BSC to buy tickets for $12.

Undergraduate Initiatives is Now Accepting Applications for Convocation Speakers

Want to help welcome incoming freshmen and transfer students and their families in the fall?

Undergraduate Initiatives is now accepting applications for the 2010 Convocation student speaker. The speaker will be chosen by a committee of faculty, staff, and students based on the applicant’s experience at SLU and proposed message they would share with the student body.
