The McNair Fellows Program Holds an Open House on September 3 for Students Interested in Graduate Education

The McNair Fellows Program is open to any SLU undergraduate student who is interested in graduate education. On Friday, September 3, at 3:30 PM the program will be holding an open house for students in room 123 of the Bauman Eberhardt Center. Michelle Parrinello-Cason with the program explains more:

The McNair Fellows Program is open to any SLU student (Freshman-Senior) who is interested in graduate education. We help prepare students for graduate studies by providing workshops on the application process, networking, and research.

The Fellows program is a part of the larger McNair Scholars Program which provides research and travel opportunities and funding to first-generation or underrepresented students. Participants in the McNair Fellows program will be given preferential application status to the Scholars Program.

Students who are interested in graduate school (or even just considering it as a possibility) should come by our Open House. They can learn more about the programming we provide and the opportunities available. Come enjoy some refreshments and meet other students considering graduate studies.

For more information, contact Michelle Parrinello-Cason at mcnair@slu.edu or at 314-977-2108.

SLUMA Presents “Urban Wanderers: The Tail End” on Sunday, August 29

Mary Marshall of the Saint Louis University Museum of Art sent in the following about their current exhibition:
The Saint Louis University Museum of Art will host “Urban Wanderers: The Tail End” on Sunday, August 29, beginning at 1 p.m. Barret Jackman, defenseman for the St. Louis Blues, will be at the museum to mark the final day of the exhibition, featuring artwork inspired by abandoned animals rescued by Stray Rescue of St. Louis.
Urban Wanderers: The Tail End will offer a final opportunity to personally view the art that inspired over 40 area artists, including actress Loretta Swit, to paint, sculpt, and photograph an abandoned stray. All artwork is available for auction at blacktie-stlouis.com/auctions. Proceeds support Stray Rescue of St. Louis.
The dog days of summer are nearly at an end, however, the Stray Rescue mission continues. Over 90 dogs formerly housed at the city pound are in the process of being relocated and provided with clean, new homes at the new Stray Rescue shelter located at 2320 Pine. Although the Stray Rescue shelter is ready for occupancy, more than $600,000 is needed to complete construction. Stray Rescue of St. Louis requires $1.7 million annually for operational costs.
Light refreshments Pappy’s Smokehouse, and Anheuser-Busch products will be served.
Must be 21-years-of-age to consume alcohol.

The U. Holds Burger Eating Contest Benefitting SLU Scholarship Fund on September 11

That’s a big burger. You might think that eating this burger might come with some guilt. Au contraire. Read what Adam Kustra sent SLU Connection about the U.’s behemoth burger eating competition:

The U. is launching a new burger called “The Graduate” and we are having a competition on Sept. 11 to see who can eat it the fastest. Best time wins $250 in cash, $100 for second and $50 for third. It is $20 to enter, and all extra money will be donated to a scholarship benefiting the SLU Center for Entrepreneurial Studies. We hope to have a big turn out, especially lots of hungry SLU students.

See? You win some money and the rest goes straight to a scholarship. The burger still goes straight to your hips.
