Give a Non-Perishable Food Item to the Interfraternity Council and Help Feed the Hungry

All week, the Interfraternity Council is seeking to raise awareness about those who lack a secure food source. According to Christopher Fidler,

In 2008, nearly 13% of Missourians were food insecure and this number is increasing. More middle class families are facing food insecurity and turning to food stamps. Food Outreach clients face illness (HIV/AIDS or cancer) and hunger before turning to us. As of May 2009, Food Stamp enrollment in US has passed the 34 million point.

The IFC asks students to drop off non-perishable food at collection bins located in the BSC by the information desk and in DeMattias Hall.

For more information, contact cfidler@slu.edu or visit the Facebook event page.

STEM Urban Outreach Holds General Interest Meeting September 30

STEM Urban Outreach is a group of SLU students who obtained a Bright Idea Grant last year to do Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics educational outreach with local students. According to STEM,

Our belief is that students learn best though hands-on projects, and we hope to use the projects we provide to help local high-school and junior high students consider a future in a STEM field! We are purchasing parts for lots of exciting engineering projects, and we will be working directly with the students to help them complete fun, hands-on projects that demonstrate the application of Science and Math to real-world problems.

STEM Urban Outreach is inviting students to join in this cause and be a part of the team. Any SLU student can join, and they have volunteer and leadership positions open. They’ll be holding a general interest meeting this Thursday, September 30, at 6 PM in the McDonald-Douglas Hall Rotunda.

Contact STEM Urban Outreach at STEM.urban.Outreach@gmail.com or visit their website at sites.google.com/site/stemurbanoutreach/.
