Maria Magdalena Campos-Pons Lecture

Saturday afternoon, Cuban artist Maria Magdalena Campos-Pons will be giving the Kristen Peterson Distinguished Lecture in Art and Art History in the Xavier Theatre!
The Art History Program and Studio Art Program of Saint Louis University’s Department of Fine and Performing Arts, and Saint Louis University’s Museum of Contemporary Religious Art (MOCRA), are pleased to welcome Maria Magdalena Campos-Pons.

A leading artist of the Afro-Cuban diaspora, Campos-Pons has exhibited globally at venues including the Venice Biennale. In a talk titled, “Rituals and Spirituality in the Performative Photographic Work of Maria Magdalena Campos-Pons,” she will discuss her exploration of themes of separation, fragmentation, and memory through multiple artistic disciplines, including her compelling photographic work that combines autobiography with performative ceremony.

The lecture is free and open to the public. A reception with the artist will follow next door at MOCRA. A small exhibit of works by Campos-Pons will be on display at MOCRA the day of the lecture and continue through April 28, 2013.
