Specialist in Latin American Affairs to Speak on Jobs in the Federal Government

On Wednesday, February 10, Career Services and the Public Services Initiative at SLU will present Clare Ribando Seelke to speak on what it’s like to work for the federal government. Here’s the event information from Career Services:

Public Service Initiative @ SLU presents: Clare Ribando Seelke is a Specialist in Latin American Affairs at the Congressional Research Service, the research arm of the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C. She came to CRS as a Presidential Management Fellow (PMF) and completed rotations with the State Department in the Dominican Republic and with the U.S. Agency for International Development in Washington D.C. as part of her PMF fellowship.

She covers Mexico, Bolivia, and Central America, as well as a number of cross-cutting issues such as the Merida Initiative, Gangs, and Trafficking in Persons.

Ms. Seelke holds a Master of Public Affairs and Master of Arts in Latin American Studies from the University of Texas at Austin. Her undergraduate degree is from the University of Notre Dame. To learn more about the Public Service Initiative at SLU, please visit our website.

First-Year Experience Leadership Applications Available

The first year at college can be a tough time to transition for a lot of people. Luckily, there’s a program filled with absurdly cool people to help alleviate first year hiccups.

The First-Year Experience programs are gearing up for their next selection process. Now is your chance to apply to be a SLU 101 Leader, an Oriflamme Leader, a University 101 Peer Instructor, a Commuter Assistant, or multiple positions.

Come to one of the mandatory information sessions, listed below, and get an application. Applications are due January 29. The information sessions will be held on the following dates:

Thursday, January 21, 2010 BSC 173, 4:00pm

Wednesday, January 27, 2010 BSC 173, 5:00pm

The Busch Student Center – Tech Services Center is now open for business! Come to our Grand Opening Week, grab a snack and get some information.

  • Tuesday, Jan 12 the Apple representative will be in the office to answer questions and demo devices.
  • Wednesday, Jan 13 ITS is holding open interview sessions from 11 – 2 for all open Intern positions.
  • Thursday, Jan 14 open Xbox gaming all day!
