New ID Policy Affects All University Employees

Starting August 1st, SLU is requiring all university employees, including student workers, to display their on their person while they are on campus.

The objective of the new policy is to enhance safety within the university.

Sam Simon, administrator for safety and emergency preparedness, explained that the identification is a step to a more secure campus.

“It might seem like a small thing, but it truly enhances the feeling of safety on a campus.”

The policy has been in effect at the Medical Center for several years in buildings such as the Edward Doisy Research Center. The new university-wide policy, Simon explains, “shows that every building on campus is equally important.”

The badges also create a welcoming atmosphere for visitors to the university.

Boyd Bradshaw, Ed.D., vice provost for enrollment, emphasized how important the badges were to prospective students and their families.

“When we’re walking around campus, we can all serve as SLU ambassadors to our prospective students and their parents,” Bradshaw said. “It will mean a lot to future members of our Billiken family to see that so many people are around to assist them.”

For more information on the new policy, visit Parking and Card Services at www.slu.edu/services/parking/c_slu_card.html or Room 33 in DuBourg Hall and Room 1063 in the Salus Center.
