Bear Ceuse and Flaming Death Trap to Perform at the Billiken Club

l_2783ff36e085483ba2e960d00e08db6d

One of Saint Louis University’s own will be taking the stage at the Billiken Club on Friday, December 5.

Cameron Matthews, SLU grad, will be performing with his band Bear Ceuse. You can check out their MySpace page here. They will be joined by Flaming Death Trap, whose name I can only assume is some kind of reference to the elevators in Gries. They’re also on an antiquated social media site.

As always, Billiken Club shows are free, all ages, and open to the public. Doors open at 8, show starts at 9. For more information on this and upcoming events, check out the Billiken Club’s website at thebilikenclub.wordpress.com. See you there!

Recent SLU Grad Shares Thoughts on Being a Senior

tyler

Tyler Brownfield, a recent management graduate is our guest blogger for today. Below he shares his thoughts on what it means to be a senior here at SLU.

Word for Seniors:

Although it is the start of another year for SLU seniors, it’s also the final leg of their tenure.

Senior year.

What I find difficult about being a senior is that it always feels like you are concurrently focusing on the future, present, and the past. In the future, you’re worrying about securing a job, finding a place to live, going to graduate school, or even planning for a victory lap. In the present, your mind is on academics, social life, and organization responsibilities. Finally, in the past, you’re thinking about your previous SLU experience up to the present. The unfortunate thing is that we often are so caught up in the future and present that we rarely take time to finish or reflect on the past. Using a book analogy, in a way we’re writing the next chapter, before the previous one was even finished.

What I found to be most difficult about being a senior was that in the process of focusing on the present and future one often forgets to reflect on the past.

Tyler Brownfield is a recent management graduate from the John Cook School of Business @ SLU. In his spare time he enjoys digital photography, spending time with family & friends, and building things. If you would like to learn more, visit his facebook page at: facebook.com/tylerbrownfield

SLU Grad Fundraising for Libraries in West Africa

Wendy Lee, a SLU grad and peace corps volunteer, hopes to raise $11,500 to build thrity bilingual libaries in Cameroon.

The project, dubbed “Books for Cameroon,” began to supply a small school near her home with books. The project later expanded to include 30 communities and schools.

Schools in Cameroon do not generally have access to a library. Those that do have a supply of books do not utilize them to their potential. The Books for Cameroon project would not only provide books for the schools and communities across Cameroon, but also provide library management training to ensure sustainability.

Since Cameroon is a bilingual nation, the project will provide materials in both English and French.

To find out more about Books for Cameroon, visit the project’s website, its Facebook page, or follow Wendy Lee’s blog and twitter.

SLU Medical Students and Extra Space Storage present the 2nd annual Strides 4 Kids Run at Tower Grove Park on Saturday, September 12, 2009.
