Having gone through the long process of applying, the long wait of acceptance, and the long struggle of deciding; freshmen have to read a book before they finally get to go to SLU.
You now have the opportunity to pick this book. But, before recommending the first book that pops into your head consider these guidelines for what the book should be:
- Considerably short (less than 300 pages, if possible)
- Interesting to students as a summer reading
- Relevant topics for incoming students
- Potential for integration in other areas of the curriculum
- Cost efficient for the program (less than $15/book)
- Any genre (including fiction and non-fiction)
- The book should not be discipline specific, in that it reaches a general audience
Submit your idea to the First-year Summer Reading Program here. The ideas will be reviewed by a committee made up of SLU faculty, staff, and students who will first narrow down the selections, read all the books considered, and then submit a final recommendation to the Vice President of Academic Affairs Office for approval.
Submissions are due before October 28th, so hurry and submit the book that could change someone’s freshman year!
