Celebrate the Year of the Dragon

The first day of the first new moon of the year, today, marks the beginning of Lunar New Year. According to Chinese Astrology, 2012 is the year of the dragon, the only mythical animal in the zodiac. People born in the year of the dragon are said to be charismatic, energetic and natural leaders. Some famous “dragons” include Joan of Arc, Vladimir Putin, and John Lennon.

The Chinese New Year is a time to welcome a long life, wealth and prosperity and to eliminate any negativity from the past. This fourteen day celebration is very symbolic and holds many myths and traditions for the Chinese culture. It is the tradition that every family thoroughly cleans the house to sweep away any ill-fortune in hopes to make way for good luck, peace, and happiness. Food during the celebration includes items such as pigs, ducks, chicken and sweet delicacies.

Billiken Dining is extremely excited to celebrate the Lunar New Year in Griesedieck and Rienert for dinner from 4:30-7:00! There will be Chinese music, decorations, and of course delicious food, such as hot and sour soup, orange chicken, cashew shrimp, stir fry, crab Rangoon, and so much more!

Taco Showdown

*In deep announcer voice* Throughout the semester courageous students have braved the test of food; seven tacos. Now these weekly champions must face each other in an all out battle! Who will be the taco master? Who will win the ultimate prize of a free burrito a week? Only the tournament this Wednesday will determine the winner.

Come to Salsirita’s Fresh Cantina, Wednesday at 6:00p.m. and watch the battle begin!

Thanksgiving Dinner

Bummed out about everyone starting Christmas celebrations so early? Then celebrate Thanksgiving early by attending Billiken Dining‘s Thanksgiving Dinner in the Wool Ballroom this Monday from 4:00p.m. to 7:00p.m.

It only costs one meal swipe or $7.70. A few things to look forward to eating are: carved turkey (of course). mashed potatoes, dressing, rolls, and of course a variety of pies.

Fusz Day TONIGHT!

Did you notice something new dining over at Fusz? Over Fall Break,  new colors and décor were added to the dining hall. There are also some new tasty treats, including milkshakes, panini’s and wings added to Fusz menu. And it will all be revealed tonight from 4-8 at “Fusz Day.”

There will be KSLU DJing,  a raffle and give aways including a mountain bike, an ipod touch, and lots of other prizes.  Naked Juice will be here sampling and handing out free stuff as well. So cancel all plans (which should be easy with no ballgame to distract you) and come by!

 

TGIF Grill Series for today

Last week we introduced you to the TGIF Grill series, happening every Friday – weather pending. SLU Connection, always drawn by food, went out to see the grill-masters at work:
