‘RecycleMania’ Tournament Coming to SLU

Saint Louis University will participate in the 2011 “RecycleMania” tournament, a friendly competition and benchmarking tool for college and university recycling programs to promote waste reduction activities to their campus communities.

The 2011 dates for the RecycleMania tournament are Feb. 6 – April 2.

Visit the RecycleMania website to learn more about the tournament and what you can do to make SLU’s inaugural involvement a success.

SLU runs a single-stream recycling program to maximize participation from students, faculty and staff.

Single-stream means all recyclables are acceptable to put into any recycling bin on campus.

The following items can be recycled:

  • Cardboard
  • Paper (including newspapers, phone books, junk mail, catalogs, magazines, etc.)
  • Paperboard (cereal boxes, snack boxes, etc.)
  • Dairy and Juice containers
  • Plastic bottles and containers #1-7
  • Glass bottles and jars
  • Aluminum (all)
  • Tin or Steel cans

Residence Life & Ameren UE Partner to Host an Apartment Conservation Competition

This Spring semester Housing and Residence life is teaming up with Ameren UE to host an apartment conservation competition. The apartment with the highest reduction in electricity for each month (compared with previous years usage) will be entered into drawings for prizes sponsored by Ameren, Facilities and Housing and Residence Life.

This semester we’ll also see programming around the theme of conservation with information about sustainability and social justice issues. Housing & Residence Life will host student education sessions relating to the reality of costs for electricity bills if you live off-campus (or for when you graduate!)

The genius behind this idea is Lauren Macdonald a RA who currently works in the Village Apartments!
