The Historic Cupples House Hosts ‘Rooms In Bloom’

The Historic Samuel Cupples House is pleased to host its third annual Rooms in Bloom, sponsored by the St. Louis Florists Network. The floral feast begins on Thursday May 14 at 5:30 p.m. and continues until Sunday, May 17. A patio reception featuring the jazz trio, The Silk Pajamas, will be held on Thursday, May 14, beginning at 5: 30 p.m.

Once again, members of the St. Louis Florists Network will showcase their talent and draw their inspiration from the elegant décor of the 42-room Victorian mansion as they design floral works of art that complement the rooms and areas throughout Cupples House. The flowers and fragrances of spring will cross-pollinate with the art and ambiance of the Historic Samuel Cupples House to create the perfect oasis for a relaxing afternoon.

“Relics of a Glorious Past” at SLUMA

A couple weeks ago SLU Connection was over at the Saint Louis Museum of Art to check out their current exhibit: “Relics of a Glorious Past.” Here’s a little something we put together, complete with an imperial Russian soundtrack.

Bill Nye Huge Hit

Bill Nye was nothing short of awesome last night.

An hour before the show, the doors of the BSC Ballrooms were already surrounded by a teeming mass of students.. The total count for the lecture was about 2,100: 400 over the capacity of the Ballrooms. Students in the Saint Louis Room watched the lecture through the magic of television and the hard work of SLU TV and KSLU.

Mr. Nye covered everything from rock hammers to sundials to ice cores, but the biggest crutch of his lecture was sustainability. Bill Nye argued that climate change was the most pressing matter facing the world today, and that students at Saint Louis University were going to be the ones to (dare I say it) change the world.

After the event, the Science Guy headed up to the Saint Louis room to sign autographs, again to a line of giddy students that snaked well beyond the entrance. The Environmental Task Force, Just Earth! and Parks College held a sustainability fair in the Saint Louis Room as well.

The University News was lucky enough to catch up with Mr. Nye afterward for this interview.

University Theatre Presents ‘Little Shop of Horrors’

Click here for the HD version

Colin and I got a sneak peek at the Univeristy Theatre’s production of Little Shop of Horrors.  If the talented students we saw working on this show are any indication, this is going to be am awesome show.

Here’s the description for those who haven’t been lucky enough to have caught a show before.

A down-and-out skid row floral assistant becomes an overnight sensation when he discovers an exotic plant with a mysterious craving for fresh blood.  One of the longest running Off-Broadway shows of all time, this affectionate spoof of 1950′s sci-fi movies has become a house-hold name thanks to a highly successful film version and a score by the celebrated songwriting team of Ashman and Menken, (The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, and Aladdin).
