“Wild Cards!” A Book Signing

Rob Rains, sports writer and 1380 AM sports talk host, has written Wild Cards, a play-by-play account of the World Series-winning St. Louis Cardinals’ race for the pennant. Join Rains for a book signing on Saturday, November 19 from 1 – 2 PM at the Saint Louis University Museum of Art. Books are available for purchase for $14.95. (Cash only, please.)

In addition to the Wild Cards book signing, the museum is currently exhibiting In Motion: Sports Photography by Lew Portnoy. The exhibition features more than 75 images of some of the world’s most famous athletes at their best.

All photography contained in the exhibition is available for silent auction and will benefit Cardinals Care, a St. Louis Cardinals non-profit foundation that has distributed more than $14 million dollars to support organizations throughout the St. Louis area since its inception in 1997.

World Handstand Record

Go to Chaifetz Arena tomorrow, Sept. 17, to try and break the world record for most simultaneous handstands. At no cost gymnasts and non-gymnasts are going to try and beat the 2,402 record set in 2005. The activities start at 11 a.m. and run to 1 p.m. There is no cost but donations to raise money for Children’s Miracle Network will be accepted. Seems like SLU is in a record breaking mood lately, so let’s go for one more!

SLU SEDS Invites Students To FREE Planetarium Show & Stargazing Party

On the first Friday of every month, the St. Louis Science Center hosts a free (zero dollars) planetarium show followed by a stargazing party with the local St. Louis amateur astronomy club. SLU’s own space club, SLU Students for the Exploration and Development of Space (SEDS), is going to attend for the second time this year, and you’re invited.

They’ll be meeting in the Busch Student Center at the Ritter Hall entrance on Friday, March 4 at 6:00 pm to head over to the Science Center. They ask that anyone interested RSVP in order to arrange transportation. To RSVP, email sluseds@gmail.com

Also, if you’re looking to meet other people who dig red dwarves and pale blue dots, SLU SEDS will have its next general meeting on Tuesday, March 22 in BSC room 245 at 6:00.
