University News Celebrates 90th Anniversary

The University News has been a student voice of Saint Louis University since 1921… That’s 90 years. That’s a lot of years. And the UNews is celebrating this with a weekend-long anniversary event!

The event will include awesome things like a panel discussion, a banquet honoring the newspaper’s 90th birthday, a tour of the current newsroom, socials to reconnect with peers, and many more exciting opportunities! The main attraction is a reception on Saturday, November 19th at 7PM at Triumph Grill. The reception costs $25 per person or $18 dollars per student.

All the other events are free and can be viewed on the UNews’s website.

UNews Now Accepting Editor Applications

The University News, a student voice of Saint Louis University since 1921, is now accepting applications for the 2011-2012 editorial board!

There are a great deal of positions open, so whether you’re a writer, designer, photographer, or illustrator, you can get involved with the exciting world of college journalism!

You can find online application on the UNews website. Applications, including a cover letter and a résumé, are due April 8. The list of available position is below.

The University News Seeking Contributors

Jonathan Ernst, Editor-in-chief  of The University News wants you to come help make the UNews even better.
The University News, a student voice of Saint Louis University since 1921, is seeking students interested in writing (News, Arts, Sports, Opinion), design, illustrating and photography.

Any student currently enrolled at Saint Louis University in some capacity is welcome to participate in The University News, regardless of major or area of study.

Our weekly staff meetings take place in our newsroom, BSC Suite 354, every Monday at 5 p.m. At these meetings, the section editors pitch the next week’s stories to the writers, who then choose which story they’ll cover that week. Articles are due every Friday by 5 p.m., unless you’re told otherwise by your editor. Editors are available for consultation about stories during their office hours (posted outside the newsroom), and by appointment.

Students are encouraged to join at any point during the academic year—we’re always looking to expand our staff of writers, photographers, illustrators and designers.

Name the UNews’ New Billiken Cartoon!

Jonathan Ernst, Editor-in-Chief of The University News, is inviting students to name the Billiken cartoon featured in every issue!

The University News needs a name! The publication has a new front page Billiken cartoon and you can vote on a name for this Billiken at unewsonline.com in our web poll. The name will be announced in our September 30th edition on the front page based on your feedback.
