9/11 Prayer Service, Masses

The Division of Mission and Ministry invites the University community to remember the men and women who died during attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon Sept. 11, 2001, to honor the many acts of selflessness displayed by rescue workers, and to pray for peace.

Friday, Sept. 9
An interfaith prayer service will be held at 10:03 a.m. Friday, Sept. 9, in two locations – at the peace pole located across from Des Peres Hall and the peace pole on the green space between Doisy College of Health Sciences and the School of Nursing. The time of 10:03 was chosen because this was the time that the fourth plane crashed. The prayer service will last about 10 minutes.

Sunday, September 11
Remembrances of those lost on Sept. 11 also will be a part of three Masses on the SLU campus. The official prayers at the masses will come from the Church’s “Mass for Justice and Peace.”

10:30 a.m. Mass: Saint Louis University Hospital Chapel

4:30 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. Mass: St. Francis Xavier Church

The SLU Haiti Task Force is calling for the Operation Haiti boxes at masses this Sunday:

Operation Haiti is a fundraiser that took place over the course of Lent, with the goal of deepening Lenten Promises while assisting in the aid of the Haitian people. Those who made contributions and sacrifices through their personal Operation Haiti boxes are asked to return their box to a collection at College Church following the 4:30 and 9 p.m. Masses. Additional collection sites include the BSC on April 12 and 13, Campus Ministry, the School of Nursing, and the Clinical Laboratory Science Department in the Allied Health Building. All donations collected will be sent to the American Red Cross. The SLU Haiti Task Force and Campus Ministry thanks all those that have Supported Haiti by participating in Operation Haiti this Lent!
