In honor of the end of the semester and all of the studying the accompanies finals time, RHA is once again putting on Midnight Breakfast this Monday, May 6th between 10-11:30pm in the Griesedieck dining hall. It is estimated that 925 million people are chronically hungry, even though there is enough food in the world for everyone to have adequate nutrition. FMSC works with volunteers to produce MannaPackTM Rice, a scientifically formulated food that is culturally acceptable worldwide. Almost 70 countries use these to give to children in need.

The Disability Services Club is trying to produce 100,000 meals for children around the world. In order to do this, they need to raise 22¢ for each meal, or $23,000 total. To raise money, they will be selling and delivering muffins around SLU’s campus this Monday, May 6th! If you would like to order a box of a dozen or half-dozen muffins (including cinnamon streusel, double chocolate chip, and blueberry muffins), fill out the order form here by this Friday, May 3rd at 2pm. The recommended donation for a dozen muffins is $22, and $11 for a half-dozen.

The concert will SLU acts along with local acts. Scheduled to play is Show Some Teeth, Beyond All Reason, The Founders, DJ Apollo, and LOL (the SLU improv group). There will also be door prizes and a raffle. You can get a ticket at the door for $4, and buy raffles at the price of 1 for $1 or 6 for $5. All proceeds will go towards St. Jude’s.

It should be a great night, so take a study break and stop by!

Tomorrow evening, Billiken Bystander Initiatives presents Cute or Creepy? in the Griesedieck Seminar Room at 7.

This will be an interactive discussion about modern relationships and includes a speaker from Safe Connections. You can expect to get answers to questions such as “Facebook Stalking: Cute or Creepy?” “Texting Constantly: Cute or Creepy?” and “How do you help a friend in an unhealthy relationship?”

They are looking to fill 22 positions for the summer. The open interview will take place from Monday the 29th until Thursday, May 2nd in the BSC Student Tech Service Center (room 137), from 1:30-3:30pm.

This mini marathon will allow SLU students to learn more about SLUDM and to see the uniqueness of the organization and event. The mini marathon is primarily to show appreciation for the dance marathon’s past participants and to show potential participations about the mission and event.

There will be a bunch of activities taking place, such as learning part of a line dance, hearing a story from a CMN representative, games, food, and of course – dancing with a DJ! This mini marathon gives just a taste of the actual dance marathon. Stop by and see what all the buzz is about!

Come check out the studio art from your fellow students at the exhibit in the McNamee Gallery (lower level of the Cupples House) Wednesday through Friday from 12-4pm and Saturday from 1-4pm. The exhibit will be open starting this Friday the 26th until May 10th. You can expect to see many different types of artwork, including ceramics, computer art, graphic design, fibers, metals, painting and printmaking.

The exhibit is free and sponsored by the Department of Fine and Performing Arts.

Peter Bergen is a print and TV journalist and CNN’s national security analyst. He will be presenting “The Awakening: How Revolutionaries, Barack Obama and Ordinary Muslims are Remaking the Middle East” in the Wool Ballrooms. He will speak on how the issue of Islam is becoming a fault line between Democrats and Republicans, and what exactly that means for us in this highly polarized environment.

The keynote address will take place tomorrow evening at 7:30 in the Saint Louis University Museum of Art (SLUMA). Rabbi Susan Talve, of the Central Reform Congregation, will be speaking on the importance of inclusion and activism in the plight for social justice. Rabbi Susan has helped lead both local and global social justice movements. Her congregation has become a safe space for Jews of the LGBTQ identity, and Jews of Color. Rabbi Susan has also helped advocate for workers’ and laborers’ rights, universal access to healthcare, and peace for the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.

McLane is a poet and critic and currently teaches at New York University. She has also published two books of poems, World Enough and Same Life; several books of literary criticism related to Romanticism; and My Poets, a book of experimental criticism that tracks the “growth of a poet’s mind” (in Wordsworth’s phrase). Her essays have appeared in numerous publications and she has received a National Book Critics Circle Nona Balakian Citation for excellence in reviewing.

This event is free, open to the public, and sponsored by the English Department. Light refreshments will be provided.
