You can also sell some of your books that you bought and get some money in return, it doesn’t matter whether you bought them here or not. You can do this anytime up until May 16th.

Decadence A Cappella will end this year with a show entitled “Battle of the Sexes.” Come to the BSC  170 on Monday, May 7, at 8 PM to hear some a cappella goodness. Word on the street is that Decadence will be debuting eight new songs. Guest performers include Bare Naked Statues, Xquizit, and City Garden Montessori’s Children’s Choir, Skittles. And the best part? It’s free! Although donations will be accepted, and any money gained will go toward recording Decadence’s first album.

So yeah, seems like a nice way to end the year, say goodbye to any departing seniors, and enjoy some free music in the BSC.

It is time for the highlight of SLU’s first annual Gender and Politics conference that the Political Science Department has been putting on. And this event is the “Politics, Power, and African American Women Elected Officials in St. Louis.”

With co-sponsorship from the African American Studies, Women’s Studies, and the Political Science Department the roundtable panel was created. This discussion will focus on the perspective of African American women running for and serving in elected office. This will be in room 256 of the BSC this Friday from 1:00p.m. until 2:30p.m.

That’s right, its time for SLU’s only hiphop dance team, XQuizit, to strut their stuff at their third annual showcase: Things Dancers Say.

They will be performing, with some special guest performances, in the St. Louis Room of the BSC this Friday. The doors open at 7:00p.m. with the performance starting at 7:30p.m. and ending at 9:30p.m. Tickets are only $5 at the door or you can stop by the BSC from around 10:00a.m. until 5:00p.m. to buy tickets for only $3.

The Bare Naked Statues present their final show of the year – “Singo De Mayo” – this Saturday, May 5. The Statues will be performing in the BSC’s Wool Ballroom at 7 PM. This show includes special guests Beyond All Reason from SLU, After Dark from Wash U, and the Wild Scats from Hazelwood West High.

Tickets for the show will be $7 at the door, but if you visit the BSC before Friday, you can purchase a ticket for $5.

It’s about that time of year again….SLU students, alumni, faculty, and friends have dusted off their violins, violas, cellos, and bass and have practiced a few tunes to share with the SLU community.

SLU’s Music Department has brought you the 2012 Spring Concert for a chance to hear the music of the strings this Friday. The ensemble will be gathered to play in the Saint Francis Xavier College Church and will start the performance at 7:00p.m. They will then be thrilling the audience with a range of pieces from Mozart’s Divertimento to Kansas’ Dust in the Wind.

Saint Louis University Theatre’s last play of the season is Vinegar Tom, written by Caryl Churchill. Here’s what the theatre says:

Esteemed British playwright Caryl Churchill hauntingly examines poverty, gender, and power through the lens of 17th century witchcraft trials in England. Vinegar Tom is a witch tale with no witches. This parable of oppression and scapegoats challenges us to think about the role of modern-day women and our responsibility for the injustice that still exists in today’s world.

Showtimes are May 4, 5 at 8 PM and May 6 at 2 PM. Saint Louis University Theatre is located in Xavier Hall. Tickets are $10 for adults, $9 for senior citizens and SLU faculty and staff, and $7 for all students. For more information, call the theatre at (314) 977-3327.

If you’ve ever had crutches then you know how difficult it can be to walk with them, not to mention run. See how good you are on crutches tomorrow, May 1st, by heading over to visit the Disability Services Club in the Quad.

There will be Crutches Races and a bake sale in the Quad during the day. All the proceeds will go to benefit those with disabilities or temporary conditions on SLU’s campus. So get ready to eat some treats  and race!

It is time for SLU’s 6th annual Run for Their Lives 5K Run/Walk. Student’s for Life is hosting the event in support of the Pregnant and Parenting Student Assistance (PPSA) fund.

The event is this Saturday, May 5th and the last day to register online here is May 4th. Registration costs only $15 online and will be $20 the day of the race. Check-in begins at 8:00a.m. around the Spring Street Clock Tower with the race beginning at 9:00a.m.

Imagine: the year is 1997. You are sitting in your living room. Your childhood dog is at your lap. You are enjoying a snack pack and watching your favorite game show, Legends of the Hidden Temple. “This is the best show ever,” you think to yourself, “I wish I was on this show.” It was an earnest wish, but alas, a futile one. You were never on Legends of the Hidden Temple. Besides, they stopped making new episodes in 1995, and, as I said before, it’s 1997.

OK, it’s 2012 again. Remember that wish you had back in 1997? Billikens After Dark has the perfect event to fulfill this childhood fantasy: Legends Takeover!

Stop by the quad tomorrow night from 9 PM – 12 AM for some crazy physical and mental challenges, a “Jungle Boogie” dance, and the mythical Shrine of the Silver Billiken. The event is completely free, plus you could win some great prizes!

What are rights? Where did they come from? If these questions have been on your mind you can finally have some answers! Or you can at least hear a few different ideas about it.

Tomorrow, April 27th, you can hear from a panel of Professors from the Philosophy, Theology, and Social Work departments. This will be followed by and extensive Question and Answer session with a magisterial response from Professor Luke Milligan of the University of Louisville School of Law.

Andy Warhol is one of the most influential artists of the 20th century. Primarily known as a painter and a filmmaker, he also shot a lot of Polaroid photography, and The Saint Louis Museum of Art’s next exhibition is dedicated to these photos. The exhibition is called Warhol’s Polaroids: A Method and the opening reception will be held on Friday, April 27 from 5:30 PM – 8 PM.

SLUMA provided some background on the artist:

Relying primarily on his Polaroid “Big Shot,” pop icon Andy Warhol shot tens of thousands of images and used them in the development process of his prints and paintings. Warhol transferred his experience in commercial art by fully embracing its ethos. Even the name of his studio, “The Factory,” illustrates that he was ahead of his time in focusing his art on celebrities and making otherwise ordinary people who craved the spotlight feel famous, if only for “15 minutes.”

The Saint Louis University Museum of Art was among a select group of university art institutions that received a gift of Polaroids and black and white photographs from the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts, specifically, the Photographic Legacy Project.

But wait, there’s more! In conjunction with the exhibit, SLUMA is hosting a lecture by Bradley Bailey, Ph.D. titled “Warhol in a Snapshot: A Closer Look at the Man Behind the Camera” on Thursday, May 3, from 5 PM – 6 PM. Dr. Bradley will discuss the essence of Andy Warhol, what made him a pop icon, and Warhol’s impact on the art world.

Both of these events are free of charge!

Each year Saint Louis University’s Prison Arts and Education Program presents one public event by another prison education program. This year the neighboring Grand Center, Prison Performing Arts is performing: Green Eggs and Hamlet

If Shakespeare and Hamlet had a love child it would this play. The creator, F. Reed Brown, had taken the rhythm and simple vocabulary of Dr. Seuss and applied to a Shakespearean classic. 5 actors will be performing with much hilarious doubling of characters and many shamelessly corny jokes.

The play will be performed this Friday at Il Monastero, 3050 live Street, and will start at 5:30p.m. The event is free and open to the public so bring your friends for an entertaining time.

This is all part of SLU’s Prison Arts and Education program.

That’s right, SLU’s only Indian fusion acappella group will be having their concert  this Saturday, April 28th (with guests performances by SLU’s own Decadence and Maryville University’s Notorious). The fun starts at 7:00p.m. and lasts until 9:00p.m. in Tegeler Hall, doors open at 6:30p.m.
